One of the hallmarks of the enemy Dad helped to defeat, Nazi Germany, was its utter suppression of free speech, its total control of what was broadcast, printed or spoken about the regime. People died in that war so that we could continue to enjoy this essentially American freedom.
Like you, unless you are of Native American background, I come from immigrant stock. Even if you have lived your whole life in the North Country, you are descended from immigrants. Your family is here because America gave them a chance.
