  • Ayotte: Lease for Hampton Rest Areas Provides Long-Term Control and Revenue To State

Kelly Ayotte said she believes a lease option rather than a sale of the Hampton Interstate 95 rest areas and liquor stores is a better bet because the state can control a lot more about the messaging rather than selling it outright, and have a long-term source of income. Executive Councilor Janet Stevens, R-Rye, in whose district Hampton is located, said she and the governor are going to meet next week with Hampton officials who were hoping that a sale would mean $1 million a year in real estate tax revenue, where they get none right now.

  • Executive Councilor Calls Conway Land Sale an ‘Insider’ Deal, But It Passes

    By PAULA TRACY, InDepthNH.org CONCORD - The state's Executive Council approved a land transfer in Conway that one councilor called an "insider" deal, rejected a contract for TASERS at the prisons, approved a $9 million contract for behavioral crisis intervention and approved funds for new conservation land in New Boston, among other business Wednesday. It also got an update on suicide prevention measures on Portsmouth bridges after a devastating week last week involving three suicide incidents.  Gov. Kelly Ayotte and council also honored those who make community colleges, support for those in need and ahead of Mother's day, attention to postpartum health.  Ayotte and the five-member council also enjoyed some music from the Pinkerton Academy Instrument Ensemble before getting down to business.

  • Acquitted of Killing Motorcyclists, Zhukovskyy’s License Suspension Stands

    By DAMIEN FISHER, InDepthNH.org A jury found Volodymyr Zhukovskyy not guilty of causing the deaths of seven motorcycle riders in the 2019 crash, but Superior Court Judge Martin Honigberg ruled he is still responsible for the deaths. Zhukovskyy lost the appeal over his license suspension, imposed last year by a hearings officer, when Honigberg upheld the decision to hold him accountable for the deaths of seven members of the Jarheads Motorcycle Club.

  • House Budget Is Devastating for the State’s Most Vulnerable, Senators Told
