Here you will find stories about the North Country. Just writing those words, though, I sense a fight coming. When I lived in Bethlehem, I could unequivocally state that I lived in the North Country, but things got muddy when I moved to North Conway. You see some folks believe the North Country includes only communities north of the state’s four notches: Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch, Pinkham Notch, and Dixville Notch.

EASTON — Kris Pastoriza is preparing to face a judge for protesting Northern Pass by staging a sit-in on Aug. 10 by the Ham Branch River on Route 116 in Easton.
The company got almost 170 applications at the Tuesday session alone. A second session was planned between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 22 next to the police station.
Lawmakers worked to afford citizens more say in siting utility projects, but Northern Pass – the largest such proposal in state history – frustrates some who oppose it, especially intervenors who are fighting without an attorney.

The Counsel for the Public is asking for intermediate deadline delays and Northern Pass has until later this week to object.
An opponent of Northern Pass has been arrested for what she calls an act of passive resistance against the proposed hydro-electric transmission project, which is also facing pressure to provide more complete data responses to intervenors.
Supreme Court Justice Carol Ann Conboy said she won’t recuse herself from the city of Concord’s appeal even though she worked at one of Northern Pass’ law firms, McLane Middleton, years ago, still receives a McLane pension and gets legal advice from two of the firm’s directors.
