  • AG: NH Deaths of Woman and Child Investigated As Possible Murder, Suicide

    UPDATED at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025: At approximately 1:00 A.M., officers of the Pembroke Police Department responded to a call from 336 Pembroke Hill Road in Pembroke in response to a 911 call.  Upon entering the home, they made contact with the resident who called 911.  Upstairs in a bedroom they discovered the two other residents suffering from apparent gunshot wounds: Julia Byrne (age 26) and her son, Blake Byrne (age 3).  A witness at the scene reported hearing two gunshots, then going to the bedroom to find both mother and child injured. Blake Byrne was transported to Concord Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, and Ms. Byrne was pronounced deceased inside the residence.

  • WMNF Madison Gulf Trail Bridge Closed; Official Appalachian Trail Detour Identified

    Gorham, NH  May 8, 2025 -The Madison Gulf Bridge which crosses the Peabody River along the Appalachian Trail on the Androscoggin Ranger District has been closed after an inspection deemed the bridge unsafe for pedestrian traffic. The bridge will remain closed until a new structure is designed and installed.

  • Undocumented Immigrants Targeted by NH House Majority

    By GARRY RAYNO, InDepthNH.org CONCORD — Counties or communities could not stop their law enforcement departments from helping federal agents with enforcing immigration laws under a bill the House passed Thursday. The bill would also prohibit cities and towns from becoming sanctuary communities for immigrants after the House added the provision to the bill.
