It’s Not a Lifestyle So Just Get Over It

Being LGBTQ is not a choice, and the ever popular assertion that us gays are just “choosing” to live a lifestyle full of debauchery and sin is very harmful.
It makes me feel truly safe and happy to spend so much time with someone who shares makeup and clothes with me and also understands so many of my gendered experiences.
THE GAY AGENDA: I’m not afraid to admit it: I’m scared.
Deviant, perverted, alternative, or, most recently, “odd.” These are all words that have been used to refer to my gayness at one point or another.
Then it would be, yes, that I’m gay, because I would want to tell people about my girlfriend, because that’s a big part of my life right now, and a big part of my future as well. I am proud of the fact that I can call Emma, my multitalented, brilliant and beautiful best friend my girlfriend.
THE GAY AGENDA: Standing on the KSC Student Center lawn for the gathering on Saturday before the KSC Pride Parade with around 25 other people I felt more reassured than ever of our community and our ability to stand strong against those that would be more comfortable if we hid in the shadows instead of proudly standing up for who we are and what we believe in.
THE GAY AGENDA: “Everyone go around the room and tell us your name, where you’re from, your personal pronouns and how you celebrated our win on Friday!”
THE GAY AGENDA: It was the sixth grade and I was sitting on the bus home in my bootcut jeans (which were in style then, I will have you know) and my low-cut top that I always fought with my mom about wearing to school.
THE GAY AGENDA: When someone mentions “sex ed,” what comes to mind? Scared-looking teenagers rolling condoms on bananas?
THE GAY AGENDA: Conversion therapy is not talked about much unless it’s in regards to season two of American Horror Story, but this real-life horror persists today in the United States.
