    By NANCY WEST, InDepthNH.org State Supreme Court Chief Justice Gordon MacDonald says he never spoke with Justice Anna Barbara Hantz Marconi about whether she should meet with then-Gov. Chris Sununu about a criminal investigation involving her husband, Geno Marconi, the state director of the Division of Ports and Harbors. This directly contradicts Hantz Marconi’s position since about the time she was indicted last October.

The state used billions of dollars of federal money to fuel its economy creating revenue surpluses in the hundreds of millions of dollars since the pandemic and responded with tax cuts and increased spending that now is unsustainable as revenues have trended down in the last two fiscal years.

  • Fatal Crashes Prompt Lawmaker To Introduce Bill To Increase Speeding Fines

    By PAULA TRACY, InDepthNH.org PORTSMOUTH - Two fatal crashes have been reported in as many days on state roads after a year that saw markedly increased deaths among those under the age of 21. While neither of these accidents are related to speeds above 100 miles per hour, they come just as New Hampshire state Senator Regina Birdsell, R-Hampstead, introduced Senate Bill 41-FN related to enhanced penalties for speeding.

  • Lawmakers Seek Education Freedom Account Expansion

    By GARRY RAYNO, InDepthNH.org CONCORD — Under a cloud of shrinking state revenues some lawmakers are proposing a bill that could add $102 million or more a year in state spending. House Bill 115 would remove the salary cap on the Education Freedom Account program and will have a public hearing Thursday at 1 p.m. in Rooms 205-207 in the Legislative Office Building.

This case will continue to proceed as required by New Hampshire law, and the defendant will be entitled to the same due process as any other defendant - no more, no less.
