Amherst Man Pleads Guilty To Threatening Members of Congress and NH State Rep.

By U.S. Attorney news release | August 9, 2021

Ryder Winegar, 34, of Amherst, pleaded guilty on Friday in federal court to six counts of threatening members of Congress and one count of transmitting interstate threatening communications, Acting United States Attorney John J. Farley announced.

    By GARRY RAYNO And PAULA TRACY, InDepthNH.org CONCORD — After a nearly one-hour debate, the Senate Thursday voted along party lines to approve a bill that sets up the process to ban books and other “inappropriate materials” from public schools. House Bill 324 would allow anyone to file a complaint about books or materials in public schools if they believe they are obscene, harmful or inappropriate for the grade level.

  • Bills Banning Sanctuary Cities Head to Gov.; Ending Annual Inspections a No Go  

    By Paula Tracy And Garry Rayno CONCORD — A bill banning sanctuary cities in New Hampshire and one that requires law enforcement agencies to comply with immigration detainers are headed to the governor's desk after they passed the Senate Thursday. Not headed to the governor’s desk is a bill that would have ended annual safety inspections for motor vehicles, which will now go back to the Senate Commerce Committee for additional work on several problematic areas.

  • Nonprofit Questions NRC About Trump Executive Orders, Cracking Concrete at Seabrook

    By KATHARINE WEBSTER, InDepthNH.org The Seabrook Station nuclear power plant got a “green” bill of health in 2024 from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, with only two minor issues noted, according to NRC inspectors who held a public, town hall-style meeting Wednesday night at a hotel in Hampton. But members of the public and the nonprofit organization C-10 Research and Education Foundation questioned the NRC engineers about whether a series of executive orders from President Trump will impair the agency’s ability to continue protecting the health and safety of the 175,000 people who live within a 10-mile radius of the reactor – the “evacuation zone.” One executive order has reduced labor protections for government whistleblowers, said Sarah Abramson, executive director of C-10, which performs real-time monitoring of airborne radiation inside the evacuation zone, using sensors in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
