    By GARRY RAYNO, Distant DomeNew Hampshire’s motto has long been “Live Free or Die,” which caused New Hampshire native and legendary folk-singer Tom Rush to quip, “They don’t cut you much slack in New Hampshire.”For many years, the state’s motto more accurately was “live and let live,” which is a little less harsh than live free or die. But in recent years, the New Hampshire legislature has been attempting what was once the unthinkable in our Granite State, trying to upend once precious “local control.” In the past two sessions local zoning ordinances have come under attack in the legislature after the founder of the Free State Project, Jason Sorens, published a study blaming restrictive zoning for the state’s housing crisis which has been long brewing but became almost unmanageable after the COVID-induced influx of out-of-staters from urban areas buying up any property they could find at what appeared to them to be reasonable prices.

Kelly Ayotte is among 26 Republican governors who sent a joint letter to congressional leaders expressing support for President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative. The temporary agency, which would be headed by billionaire Elon Musk and former Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, would seek to reform the government and reduce up to $2 billion in wasteful spending, Trump says.

  • NH Supreme Court Rules AG Violated Neo-Nazi’s Free Speech

    By DAMIEN FISHER, InDepthNH.org The constitution even applies to neo-Nazis, like the ones in NCS-131, according to a New Hampshire Supreme Court ruling. A unanimous decision released Friday rebuked the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office for the prosecution of NSC-131 members who were charged with violating the state’s Civil Rights Act, stating the way prosecutors used the CRA against the neo-Nazis violates the constitution.  “The overbreadth of the State’s construction of the Act creates an unacceptable risk of a chill on speech protected by Part I, Article 22 of our State Constitution,” the justices wrote.  NSC-131 leader Christopher Hood and others were charged with the trespassing in order to violate the Civil Rights Act for a 2022 “White Power” demonstration in Portsmouth.
