By a unanimous vote, a bill that would tax standing trees on woodlots and forests that are enrolled in carbon sequestration programs has passed the House Municipal and County Government Committee.

  • Education Freedom Account Program Projected to Grow to 12,000 Students in Two Years

    By GARRY RAYNO, InDepthNH.org CONCORD — The Education Freedom Account program would increase about 50 percent in the second year of the next biennium if the parent salary cap is eliminated, according to the person administering the program. Speaking to Division II of the House Finance Committee Friday, Kate Baker Demers, executive director of the Children’s Scholarship Fund NH, said her projections are the program would grow to 8,000 student in the first year of the next biennium from the current enrollment of 5,884 and then to 12,000 students if the salary cap at 350 percent of federal poverty limit is removed.

  • NH DHHS: One Adult Identified In Manchester With TB

    By NHDHHS The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Manchester Health Department (MHD) have identified an adult who was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) who spent time in a homeless shelter and a community organization in Manchester, New Hampshire while infectious. The individual is receiving treatment and is no longer in the shelter or community organization environments.  There are an average of 12 people diagnosed with TB in New Hampshire each year, and DHHS initiates a disease investigation for each one.
