  •  N.H. Supreme Court Upholds State Rep Districts

    By KATHARINE WEBSTER, InDepthNH.org CONCORD - The state Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the state legislature’s 2020 redistricting map, rejecting an appeal in a lawsuit brought by the cities of Dover and Rochester and 10 residents of other towns without their own state Representatives. “The plaintiffs have not persuaded us that the trade-offs the Legislature made in enacting (this map) were unreasonable,” the justices wrote in their 4-0 opinion.

  • Housing Projects and Infrastructure Get Money and More Time from Executive Council

    By PAULA TRACY, InDepthNH.org CONCORD - The state's Executive Council approved $5 million from the Housing Champion Grant Program to 11 designated recipients to improve infrastructure and build affordable housing units across the state. Creating more affordable housing has been the state's top issue in poll after poll with many saying it is holding back the economy.

  • Senate Finance Committee votes to support two-year budget, opposed by Democrats

    By PAULA TRACY, InDepthNH.org CONCORD - Along party lines, the Senate Finance Committee voted 6-2 Tuesday to pass its version of a budget for the next two years at about $16 billion despite Democratic concerns that it does not meet the needs of the citizens of the state who are just trying to get by. But Republicans said the Senate version of the budget is responsive to public concerns and a needed "readjustment" from the past few years when the money was flowing in heavily from the federal government for post COVID-19 relief.  That money has since dried up as have a number of revenue lines which have disappeared or contracted.

  • Woodlock’s YDC Abuse Trial Delay Allows Time For New Grand Jury

    By DAMIEN FISHER, InDepthNH.org A single botched indictment against one of the men charged in the (YDC) Sununu Youth Services Center child physical and sex abuse scandal delayed the trial, but the state will not say why. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office isn’t saying that it is going back to a new grand jury to re-indict alleged YDC abuser James Woodlock, but that is the implication from Hillsborough County Superior Court — North Judge Will Delker's comments during an emergency hearing held in the case last week.
