On Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at approximately 3:29 PM, the Durham Police Department responded to the Town of Newington after the Newington Police Department reported a citizen located a body near the shoreline on Little Bay.

A subsequent investigation and evidence located with the body led investigators to believe the body was that of Alexis Garcia, a UNH student missing from the Town of Durham since November 21,, 2024.

Garcia’s body was positively identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on May 25th, 2025, after an autopsy was conducted. Based on the investigation by the Durham Police Department, there is no suspicion of foul play related to this case and the investigation has been closed.
