CONCORD – House Republicans said they are ready to get out and start campaigning, noting there is still work to be done to ensure New Hampshire has no income taxes into the future.
State Rep. Jason Osborne, R-Auburn, who is House Majority Leader, said elections are not about the past, they are about the future.
The House Republicans held a press conference on the steps of the State House Monday after finishing business from this session and at a time when candidates are filing for elections.
Everyone at the State House, from governor to House members must either file for another two years or bow out.
Osborne said voters want to know what people in Concord are going to do for them.
“You can either take more of people’s money and throw more money at the problem or you can try to find ways that the government is getting in the way of people solving their own problems. Obviously the Republicans follow that second approach,” Osborne said.
He said Democrats are out there either opposing a measure brought forward by Republicans to prevent an income tax from ever coming or actively proposing that the state needs one.
“Again, we need to make sure that does not happen. You saw the vote we had on the constitutional amendment to prohibit an income tax now or in the future failed by a handful of votes. It requires…240 votes in the House to make that happen. If you send us 240 Republicans in the New Hampshire House in November, we will make sure New Hampshire stays an income tax free state…we look forward to getting out on the campaign trail,” he said.
