How About 2025? Bad Headline or Peculiar Question? Big News?

JEFFREY HASTINGS photo

InDepthNH.org's 10th Anniversary party in October was the highlight of my year. Thanks New Hampshire. The Radio Free New Hampshire Players performed an old-fashioned radio show Wednesday night at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of InDepthNH.org. From left President Nixon (Paula Tracy), Beverly Stoddart, Michael Davidow and Michael Ferber and Lucy Wyman show what it might be like at the Washington Post if the Watergate break-in happened in 2025.

Whew, it’s 2026.

As we start the new year, you folks helped me avoid compiling a boring Top 10 News Stories and let us take a slightly different look at the year 2025.

With a straight face I asked our readers: What Do You Think Was the Most Important, Biggest, Weirdest, or Silliest News Story of 2026?

Most just ignored it, but one reader called me out.

MIKE OTIS had the best answer —“Based on the headline shown and today’s date, the biggest story of 2026 was the invention of a Time Machine in 2026 because how else could anyone ask me that question in 2025?

Thanks Mike Otis.

Michael Davidow

I promised to re-publish my favorite 2025 Radio Free New Hampshire column by Michael Davidow, an attorney/author who just published his seventh novel, “Interdiction.” That one’s easy – anything he writes about kids and baseball. I’ll throw in two from past years as well. And link to his columns archived at InDepthNH.org.

GARRY RAYNO

InDepthNH.org’s State House bureau chief Garry Rayno shared some of his picks for most important stories in New Hampshire in 2025.

He mentioned a few — defeating parental rights legislation, the housing shortage, growth in homelessness, Education Freedom Accounts, education funding, ICE disappearing people and everything else.

REMEMBER THIS ONE? REPUBLICANLY by MIKE MARLAND

I can’t seem to talk editorial cartoonist Mike Marland into coming back to InDepthNH.org right now, but he hasn’t ruled it out forever and I will keep on trying. Maybe 2026? In the meantime, check out the fine work he has done over the years for us. InDepthNH.org keeps them archived on our site here. Thank you Mike!

SUSAN DROMEY HEETER

Joyful Musings columnist Susan Dromey Heeter is pictured with a borrowed, but very real Academy Award.

One of my all-time favorites of her Joyful Musings columns wasn’t written in 2025, but I’m sharing it tonight anyway.
