Due to the escalating behavior of a food habituated black bear, the Franconia Brook Tentsite will be closed until the habituated bear is judged to no longer pose a safety risk. Franconia Brook Campsite is located on the East Side Trail on the Pemigewasset Ranger District. The bear has recently damaged several tents, and one easy up-screen enclosure. The closure is needed to protect public health and safety.

#bebearaware and store food properly in closed and locked vehicles or bear containers.

Keep a clean campsite to ensure bears and other animals don’t forage for your food.

Put coolers and food containers in your vehicle when you finish your meal.

Place trash in the bear proof dumpsters.

Improperly stored food not only attracts bears to people currently camping at a site, but lets the bear know that it can find food at that campsite in the future.

Visitors who have not properly stored their food risk their own safety and receiving a citation.
