Arnie Alpert

Arnie Alpert spent decades as a community organizer/educator in NH movements for social justice and peace.  Officially retired since 2020, he keeps his hands (and feet) in the activist world while writing about past and present social movements.

Two clusters of protesters on Lyme Road in Hanover, each with about 200 people, gathered Saturday while dozens walked between the two groups.

 On my way to Orford.

ABOVE FROM ORFORD: The sidewalk along the north side of the Connecticut River Bridge between Orford and Fairlee, VT, was lined with No Kings protesters waving American flags and mostly home made signs.

Carrying a small American flag, Orford’s oldest resident, 96-year-old Sandra Moffet, said she knows from growing up in the 30s “how little it takes to push a country over the edge.”

Moffett, who has lived in Orford for 45 years, does not remember any other protests here before the previous No Kings demonstration in April.

FROM MANCHESTER:

MANCHESTER: A group of about 200 people gathered in a public area on Granite Street near South Commercial Street Saturday. Most of the group were holding signs as they listened to various speakers. Many of the cars driving by shouted comments either supporting the group or denouncing their gathering. JEFFREY HASTINGS photo
