Patrick Patterson

Patrick Patterson is a professional photographer who lives in the seacoast region. He returned from Ukraine after photographing the people there, and learning the horrific stories of terror by Russian invaders. In this podcast by Roger Wood, he talks about a family that he visited during the war. He also talks about his own experience and the dangers he faced while working in the eastern front of Ukraine.

Patrick Patterson’s journey began in March of 2022 when he traveled to Medyka, a small Polish village situated at the Ukraine border. After documenting one of the largest refugee crises since the Second World War, Patterson relocated to Ukraine to shed light on the experiences of Ukrainians living under Russian occupation. Having spent over a year living in war-torn Ukraine, Patterson has witnessed the best and worst of humanity. From moments of respite when the war seemed distant, to times when its brutality was inescapable, he has come to understand what it means to be human, embracing the fragility of life and the value it holds.

Patterson’s impactful work has garnered recognition both in the United States and internationally, with publication in Playboy Magazine, De Groene Amsterdammer, Gazette Polaska, The Corners Magazine,and Poland Monthly Magazine. His work in Ukraine has recently been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and in the Boston Globe.

Podcaster Roger Wood was honored for his podcast again this year by the New Hampshire Press Association.

Roger Wood is an award winning radio, podcast, newspaper and television journalist, with over 50 years of experience in the media.   Roger has spent his entire professional career in New Hampshire. Roger currently serves as associate publisher and podcast producer at InDepthNH.org.  In 2021 and 2022, he was recognized by the New Hampshire Press Association for his work in news podcasts. He is the 2022 winner of the NHPA lifetime achievement award. Prior to that he was honored for his work in broadcast radio news and public affairs. He has produced news and special feature reports for InDepthNH,New Hampshire Public Radio, NPR, and other public and commercial radio stations.  He also has produced spot news for CBS Radio. He has produced and narrated some 50 audiobooks and has written three novels.  Roger has also moderated political forums for Seacoast Area Chambers of Commerce in Senate, gubernatorial and congressional races. He has also facilitated public policy discussions locally and statewide.  He has three adult children and four grandchildren. Roger and his wife Elaine, reside in Portsmouth.
