Sununu To Visit NH National Guard at Southern Border in Texas

On Wednesday evening, Governor Chris Sununu will travel to the southern border in Texas to meet with New Hampshire National Guard Soldiers who have been deployed to assist in efforts along the southern border.

“The crisis at the southern border affects all 50 states, and it’s important to get an on-the-ground look and hear directly from stakeholders,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “While there, I look forward to meeting with New Hampshire National Guard soldiers who have bravely deployed to help keep our nation safe to thank them on behalf of the entire state of New Hampshire for their dedicated service.”

On Thursday morning, the Governor will meet with 45 New Hampshire National Guard soldiers who are part of the 941st Military Police Battalion at their McAllen, Texas, Headquarters, where the Governor will receive a briefing of their area of operations from the Battalion Commander.

Later, the Governor will tour numerous Brownsville Border Patrol Station’s Remote Video Surveillance Sites that are operated by New Hampshire soldiers. The Governor will also receive a brief of Border Operations by Border Patrol.

On Thursday afternoon, the Governor will meet with Texas Department of Safety officials and take an Air Patrol Tour of the Rio Grande River.

On Friday Morning, the Governor will meet with 60+ New Hampshire National Guard Soldiers who are part of the 237th Military Police Company in Harlingen, Texas.

The Governor will return to New Hampshire on Friday evening. At no point during this trip will Governor Sununu be unavailable to act in his official capacity as Governor.
 
About the 941st Military Police Battalion:


The  941st Military Police Battalion was formed in 2019 and is headquartered in Concord, New Hampshire. 46 soldiers have been deployed to the Southern Border. The Battalion provides command and control of subordinate units and supported the state’s Covid-19 response efforts, aided the Department of Corrections, responds civil disturbances, and led the Joint Task Force Winter surge responding to the states need for hospital support. This is the unit’s first mobilization outside of New Hampshire.

About the 237th Military Police Company:

237th Military Police Company was formed in 2007 and is based in Pembroke, New Hampshire. 125 soldiers have been deployed to the southern border, while 45 remain in New Hampshire. The Unit annually trains with NH State Police and has been locally activated in support of the 2008 ice storm response, the 2020 civil disturbance responses, the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, and multiple occasions supporting The New Hampshire Department of Corrections.
