UPDATE: Attorney General John M. Formella announces an update on the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon near the intersection of Baker and Colby Streets in Keene, New Hampshire.
The incident occurred as members of the Keene Police Department responded to the area after receiving a 911 call for a person in distress. Police arrived to find a man, identified as Cullen Costa (age 25), at that location. During the subsequent encounter, an officer used deadly force and fired his weapon.
Mr. Costa was struck by this gunfire and taken to a local hospital. He remains hospitalized at this time, in critical but stable condition.
No law enforcement officers were physically injured.
The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice into the shooting of Mr. Costa is ongoing. Pursuant to protocol, the identity of the officer who used deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place. This is expected to occur sometime within the next few days.
