We Need Your Help To Save Local News on GivingNewsDay

Dear Friend of InDepthNH,

Many people don’t feel that news organizations care about the impact of their reporting. In a recent survey of more than 5,000 American adults from Gallup and the Knight Foundation, just 23% believed that most national news organizations care about “the best interests of their readers, viewers and listeners.” That’s pretty grim, especially knowing how much my colleagues at InDepthNH.org and I really do care about you and everyone we serve.

Dec. 3 is Giving Tuesday or #GivingNewsDay, as we like to call it, I want to make it clear that here at the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, which publishes InDepthNH.org daily: we care, deeply. We care about you, New Hampshire and especially we care about marginalized people, people who often don’t matter to the press.  We believe you do trust our reporting because we are all very experienced journalists, and New Hampshire is like a big small town, we know many of you as friends and supporters. We care about the impact we have on you and New Hampshire.

These are the very reasons we exist.

If our mission of holding the powerful accountable, and giving voice to marginalized people, places and ideas resonates with you, I ask you to consider donating what you can to help keep our trustworthy journalism thriving. We are hoping to raise $100,000 with many new donors by the end of the day, much that is much more than we ever have before.

But that’s because we believe the future will be even more challenging for reporters than in the past and we need to build our business component to eventually become financially sustainable. You can help make that happen either by donating up to $1,000 or becoming a Local Matcher which will allow more money to be matched by individual donations by the end of December.

NewsMatch will match up to $15,000 and our Local Matchers, including the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, the Amana Fund, the Katy Burns Local News Fund, Ocean Gaming, and a grateful reader will extend that by $41,000 to be able to match a total of $56,000. So you can see your donation is needed no matter what the amount and will be matched dollar for dollar if donated before Dec. 31.

Please Donate here: https://indepthnh.org/donate/

If you want to become a Local Matcher at $5,000 or more, please email me at nancywestnews@gmail.com or call at 603-738-5635 for details.  Please know we are grateful for whatever amount you can donate.

Thanks to all of you who understand what GivingNewsDay means to all of us for the future of news and democracy.

Thanks, Nancy West
