MOULTONBOROUGH, New Hampshire – Four children from Camp Tecumseh were taken to local hospitals Friday afternoon as a precaution after a tree near the cabin where they were sheltering during a storm was struck by lightning.

The campers weren’t struck by lightning but complained about the way they were feeling after the strike, according to Moultonborough Fire Chief David Bengtson. He didn’t know if they had been released.

A message left with the camp was not returned.

According to its website, the camp on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee serves boys ages 8 to 16.

Bengtson said sometimes people say they have tingling feelings after a nearby strike.

Bengtson said the strike at the camp was one of seven at different locations in town that his department responded to from 2:48 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. Friday.

He said there were no reports of damage or injuries, but some people complained their appliances didn’t work due to power surges from the strikes.

He said the number of strikes is not uncommon when a string of storms passes through the area.
