Simcha Fisher of Marlborough, N.H., has written the book on natural family planning. Called “The Sinner’s Guide to Natural Family Planning,” her book is a series of funny, frank, and profound essays on a topic that until she covered it in a wide-awake, humorous way, was something people talked about only in private conversations with their best friend.

And now Beverly Stoddart, the author behind InDepthNH.org’s new column called “The First Line,” sits down with Fisher in a one-on-one interview available on InDepthNH.org’s YouTube channel. Together, they delve into a topic that has been taboo for many, misunderstood by more than a few, and a source of frustration for couples everywhere. That is, until now.

Simcha Fisher, left, talks about her book with The First Line’s Beverly Stoddart.

Fisher writes honestly, with irony and wit (and a lot of humor) on what it’s really like to practice natural family planning and how to achieve those fabled “marriage building” benefits. Her book is for those trying to figure out how the heck to have a sex life that is holy but still human. She offers comfort, encouragement, honesty, wit, and, most importantly, practical advice in “The Sinner’s Guide to Natural Family Planning.” She is a Catholic blogger, speaker, and freelance writer. She blogs for the National Catholic Register and Patheos at “I Have to Sit Down.” She lives with her husband and 10 children in New Hampshire.

Did we say 10 children? She talks about that with Bev Stoddart in their session.

Reviewers have called her “wide-awake” and “compassionate” and one noted she “has taken all the things we think about NFP but feel like we can’t say, brought them into the light, and addressed them with insight and razor-sharp wit.”

An easy and lively read, thoroughly grounded in orthodox Catholic theology, this book is packed with refreshingly frank insights about sex, love, and marriage.
