The North Country Chamber Players invite audiences to their fall concert weekend, entitled The Three B’s, featuring three works by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms: Bach’s French Suite No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 813; Beethoven’s String Trio in G; and Brahms’ Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano in E-flat Major, Op. 40.

Performances will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, at Sugar Hill Meeting House, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, at Mountain View Grand in Whitefield.

Conductor Hans von Bülow cast them as a “holy trinity”: “Bach, the Father, Beethoven, the Son, and Brahms, the Holy Ghost of music.” Beyond the alliteration, each composer is considered the culmination of an entire historical period. Bach’s keyboard mastery, Beethoven’s early string writing, and Brahms’ poignant tribute to his mother, in the form of an unparalleled masterpiece for horn, violin and piano, are featured on this program, which captures the remarkable, unbroken German tradition of contrapuntal, chamber and symphonic music that runs from Bach through Beethoven to Brahms.

The North Country Chamber Players performing are Reiko Uchida, piano; Bernhard Scully, horn; Ah Ling Neu, viola; and Chris Finckel, cello. Guest artist Miki-Sophia Cloud, violin, will join the ensemble.

Reiko reflects on the fall concert program, particularly Johann Sebastian Bach’s French Suite No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 813, saying, “In my dreams, I can dance—the most elegant, graceful, intricate, expressive dance. Playing the C minor French Suite by Bach is the closest I’ll get to this!”

Bernhard adds, “Brahms’ Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano is every horn player’s inheritance: forest, memory, and grief turning back into joy. Playing it in the White Mountains in November is about as close to the piece’s home as you can get.”

The North Country Chamber Players offer pay-what-you-wish ticket pricing for all concerts. Seating is limited, and free online reservations are strongly encouraged. The recommended ticket price is $25, payable at the door, although no minimum payment is required for admission.
