STRAFFORD, NH – In a statement issued Monday, Democratic Rep. Heath Howard suspended his campaign for NH’s First Congressional District and endorsed Carleigh Beriont.
“Carleigh and I don’t agree on everything, but this race is bigger than both of us.
“We maximized the $80,000 we raised. Our bootstrapped campaign led in the polls as the anti-establishment challenger to Stefany Shaheen and Maura Sullivan. Now it’s time to pass the torch to someone with the funding, the ground game, and the momentum to take this home. I call on all candidates without establishment backing to do the same so we can finish the job and avoid vote-splitting,” Howard said.
Beriont said: “During his time in the State House and throughout this campaign, Heath Howard has been a leading voice for a bold progressive agenda that will transform the lives of working people in New Hampshire and address the biggest problems facing our state and country. Heath said this is bigger than either of us, and he is right. I am so grateful to have his support in my campaign, as we unite progressives across the district behind an agenda that includes Medicare for All, fully funded public schools, abolishing ICE, and restoring a democracy that works for all of us, not just the rich and powerful.”
