A Manchester man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday morning.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., two Manchester Department of Public Works employees were walking in the area of Manchester and Union streets when they were approached by a man known to one of them. The man was identified as 32-year-old Sean Day.

For reasons that remain under investigation, Day produced a handgun and fired a single shot, striking both men. The two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both men have now been treated and released from the hospital.

The crime does not appear to be random and there is believed to be no threat to the public. As the investigation unfolded, officers located Day at a business in Manchester and took him into custody without incident.

Day has been charged with two counts of First Degree Assault. The investigation remains ongoing.

“I am proud of the swift work of our officers and detectives in identifying the suspect and taking him into custody so quickly following this morning’s shooting,” said Chief Peter Marr. “This was a shocking and brazen act of violence that is completely unacceptable. Our thoughts remain with the city employees who were injured, their families, and the departments affected by this
incident. We wish them a speedy recovery.”

“I want to thank the Manchester Police Department for their swift response, professionalism, and work to quickly apprehend the suspect,” says Mayor Jay Ruais. “I also want to thank our Department of Public Works employees and all our City staff for the work they do every day to serve our community. I have spoken with both victims and am grateful that they are recovering, my prayers remain with all affected by this senseless crime. This was a despicable act and I hope justice is served quickly.”
