The Seacoast Friends Preserving Democracy are hosting a panel discussion under the title:  “Preserving Democracy: The Role of New Hampshire’s Independent Media.”

This public event is scheduled for May 7, 2026 in the Portsmouth Public Library at 6 PM.

Our panel will highlight media outlets in New Hampshire that are non-profit and independent, providing regular unbiased information to our state’s residents. The panel will include representatives of NH Public Radio, NH PBS as well as InDepthNH.org, NH Bulletin and the NH Gazette.

At a time when so much misinformation is being created, SFPD is focusing our activities on preserving our democracy and the rights guaranteed under our US Constitution.  Our constitution highlights the great importance of the role that our nation’s media play in creating a well-informed electorate.  That important role does not only apply to national and large media organizations but also to our local state news and media outlets as well.

According to Dawn DeAngelis: “NH PBS wants to provide responsible, reliable and trusted news and information, which matters now more than ever.”

While Dana Worwald hopes that: “the NH Bulletin gives readers as much information and context as possible to decide for themselves what is working and what isn’t.“

InDepthNH.org’s executive editor and founder Nancy West said: “Without unbiased independent news, there will be no democracy. As a nonprofit, we believe that news should be free without a paywall. Our mission is to hold the powerful accountable and give voice to marginalized people, places and ideas.”
