CONWAY, N.H. – The New Hampshire State Police is investigating a crash between a Conway Police Department cruiser and an SUV in Conway.
At 7:14 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, State Police dispatch received a report of a collision between a Conway Police Department cruiser and a privately-owned SUV on White Mountain Highway near Eastman Road in Conway.
The investigation determined that Officer James Zimmer, 26, a member of the Conway Police Department, had been driving his cruiser northbound on White Mountain Highway when he observed a violation on the part of a southbound vehicle. Officer Zimmer attempted to make a U-turn so that he could perform a traffic stop of the vehicle. While making the U-turn, he failed to perceive and yield to an SUV that had been following him, a 2020 Hyundai Kona driven by Jessica Szymanski, 49, of Conway, resulting in the crash.
Neither Szymanski nor Officer Zimmer were injured, but both of their vehicles sustained sufficient damage to require being towed from the scene. The road was fully closed for approximately two hours, from the time of the collision until the vehicles were removed.
Troopers were assisted by members of the Conway fire and police departments.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Caleb Savard at Caleb.C.Savard@dos.nh.gov.
