UPDATEL Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces an update on the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred late in the evening of Friday, May 16, 2025, on Nashua Street in Pelham, New Hampshire.
The incident occurred as members of the Pelham Police Department responded to a 911 call for a person in distress. Police arrived to find a man, identified as Sheldon Brockelbank (age 33), at that location. During the subsequent encounter, Mr. Brockelbank fired a handgun multiple times at officers. Two officers then used deadly force, and one officer used less-than-lethal force.
Mr. Brockelbank was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalized at this time and is in stable condition. Mr. Brockelbank has been charged by the Pelham Police Department for Reckless Conduct in connection with his firing a firearm that night and will be arraigned at a later date to be determined by the 10th Circuit Court – District Division – Salem.
No law enforcement officers were physically injured.
The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice into the shooting of Mr. Brockelbank is ongoing. Pursuant to protocol, the identity of the officers who used deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place. This is expected to occur sometime in the next week. Formella announces that officials are currently responding to a report of an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight in Pelham, New Hampshire, on Friday, May 16, 2025. The incident reportedly occurred as members of the Pelham Police Department were called to a residence on Nashua Road following a 911 call for an armed adult male resident in mental distress.
No law enforcement officers were physically injured in the incident. The adult male is currently receiving medical treatment for his injury and was alert and communicative when he was transported to a medical facility. There is no known threat to the public at this time.
