April was special at InDepthNH.org because your donations honored the fearless, longtime Concord Monitor columnist Katy Burns with all donations matched up to $10,000 through the Katy Burns Local Journalism Fund and we are extending it to end on May 3, World Press Freedom Day.

We are grateful to all of you who generously donated during this April Fundraiser and we are providing three more days to have your donation doubled. It seems only fitting to continue the match until May 3 in Katy’s honor.

I never got to meet Katy, who died Nov. 22, 2023, but was blessed knowing her through her terrific columns and through the generosity of her husband, Don Burns, a member of our board of directors who started the Katy Burns Local Journalism Fund to help save the future of news in New Hampshire.

Every dollar donated to the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, which publishes InDepthNH.org, was matched up to a total of $10,000 starting April 1 and now ending May 3.

According to the United Nations, World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO’s General Conference and is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.

“May 3 acts as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom. It is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics,” according to the United Nations.
