CONCORD, NH -The Concord Hospital Trust Scholarship Fund for nursing and allied health students is officially open and accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year.

Concord Hospital Trust, the philanthropic arm of Concord Hospital Health System (CHHS), oversees the Fund, which was made possible by the generosity of CHHS’s many benefactors. With the vision to inspire and enable students to pursue careers in nursing and allied healthcare professions, the mission of the Fund is to continue the availability of quality health care to the communities served by the health system. With between $45,000 and $60,000 awarded annually, scholarships typically range from $500 to $3,000.

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic merit, personal character, and other criteria determined by a sub-committee of volunteers. Students who have lived within CHHS’s primary service area for more than one year, or graduated from a high school in the service area within the past five years, or are employed by CHHS are eligible to apply.

The 2025-2026 school year application is now available on the Concord Hospital Trust website at giveto.concordhospital.org/stewardship/scholarship-fund. All applications must be received or postmarked by March 30, 2025. Award decisions will be completed by June.

The ancient Hebrew answer is that God spent six days creating heaven, the earth, and all living things, and then rested on the seventh day, the Sabbath. If that is true, then God in his infinite wisdom also took care to create exactly seven planets, so that each planet could lend its name to a day of the week. The Babylonians, who had a culture older than the records of the Hebrews, already had a seven-day week, and they named each day and each planet after seven of their many gods: Shamash, Sin, Nergal, and the rest. The Greeks followed suit with Helios, Selene, Ares, and their fellow Olympians, and then the Romans did the same with their gods. Rome’s influence was deep and wide, so today in most of the languages of Europe the god-planets give their names to the days of the week.
