AG Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Derry

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall announce an update on the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred late Friday evening on Route 28 Bypass in Derry, New Hampshire.

Around 9:20 p.m. Friday, Derry Police Officers attempted to make a traffic stop of a car being operated by Levi Coltey (age 26).  Mr. Coltey refused to bring his car to a stop. During this encounter, a single officer used deadly force and fired on the vehicle.

Mr. Coltey was struck by this gunfire and was taken to a local hospital. Mr. Coltey remains hospitalized at this time with non-life-threatening injuries.

No law enforcement officers have been physically injured, and there is no threat to the public. Mr. Coltey has been charged with various offenses by the Derry Police Department.

The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit into the officer-involved shooting of Mr. Coltey is ongoing, and the identity of the officer using deadly-force will not be disclosed until a formal interview take place. This is expected to occur sometime next week. Further information will be provided at that time.
