DURHAM  – New Hampshire PBS is proud to contribute to a panel discussion at the New Hampshire Film Festival (NHFF) that is focused on the process of public media distribution. The panel will take place on October 17 and feature representatives from New Hampshire PBS, GBH, Maine Public, Vermont Public and Rhode Island PBS.

Independent producers often seek to distribute their work through public television stations. This panel will delve into the essential steps involved, from scripting and securing broadcast rights to navigating music cue sheets and carriage agreements.

“Our goal is to foster a thriving community of independent documentary filmmakers in New England,” says Dawn DeAngelis, Vice President and Chief Content Officer at New Hampshire PBS. “By providing them with insights into the public broadcast process, we hope to help more talented producers share their stories with a wider audience.”

Attendees will gain valuable insights into the world of public media distribution and understand the best practices for successfully partnering with these organizations.

Maine Public’s Film Series Executive Producer Laura Schenck says that New England PBS programmers and independent filmmakers working together is a powerful win-win for everyone.  “Public television programmers are blessed to have such incredibly talented filmmakers here and this is a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to possibly get their work seen by a bigger audience,” says Schenck.

Vermont Public’s Director of Content Partnership Eric Ford says he’s been traveling to NHFF for years to meet local filmmakers and watch films for possible broadcast on Vermont Public. “I’m excited to have a chance to learn about how to support their work here in New England,” says Ford.
