Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris

DURHAM, NH – Following President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Democrats in New Hampshire and Maine favor Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, according to UNH surveys.

Harris holds a lead over former President Donald Trump and is slightly more popular than Trump or Biden in New Hampshire and Maine. (See Maine survey results below.)

If New Hampshire voters could only vote for Harris or Trump, 53 percent of likely New Hampshire voters say they would vote for Harris and 46 percent for Trump.

While a majority of Granite Staters do not believe Biden should resign as President, many state Democrats are relieved and hopeful in the wake of his withdrawal from the race.

And in the wake of the assassination attempt on Trump, most state Republicans do not trust the FBI to conduct a thorough investigation. More than three-quarters of state residents are concerned about future attacks on political leaders, leaders using violence or illegal methods to obtain power, or people violently or illegally interfering in upcoming elections.

These findings are based on the latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. For complete press release and detailed tabular results for NH, please click:https://scholars.unh.edu/survey_center_polls/806

A separate UNH survey in Maine:

A majority of Maine Democrats felt relieved and hopeful following President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and most would like to see Vice President Kamala Harris become the party’s nominee for president.

Harris leads in a matchup with Republican nominee former President Donald Trump and is more popular in the state than Trump and Biden.

If they could only vote for Harris or Trump in Maine, 54 percent said they would vote for Harris and 45 say they would vote for Trump.

Most state Republicans do not trust the FBI to investigate the attempted assassination of Trump and more than three-quarters of Mainers are concerned about further political attacks on political leaders, leaders using violence or illegal methods to obtain power, or people violently or illegally interfering in upcoming elections over the next year.

These findings are based on the latest Pine Tree State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.  For complete press release and detailed tabular results for Maine, please click: https://scholars.unh.edu/survey_center_polls/807
