Victim Identified in Fatal Gilford Fire

GILFORD, New Hampshire – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Gilford Fire Chief Steve Carrier and Gilford Police Chief Kristian Kelley announce that the victim of the tent fire behind 23 Liscomb Circle #30 in Gilford on March 22, 2024, has been identified. 

The NH Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 67-year-old Wayne Miller.  The cause of his death was determined to be smoke inhalation and the manner of his death was accidental.   

The investigation into the cause of the fire is active and ongoing by members of the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Gilford Fire and Police Departments.

State Fire Marshal Toomey would like to remind the public, when using supplemental heating sources such as space heaters, make sure you are following the manufacturer’s specifications for clearance, or a minimum of three feet from combustible materials, around the appliance.  Make sure there is adequate ventilation in the area where the heating appliance is being utilized.
