New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner D.J. Bettencourt issued the following statement regarding Steward Health Care’s financial struggles and the decision by Massachusetts General Brigham to pull its physicians from Holy Family Hospital centers in Haverhill and Methuen, Mass.

“The New Hampshire Insurance Department is closely monitoring the unfolding situation in Massachusetts, regarding Steward Health Care and its impact on Granite Staters getting or seeking care at the Holy Family facilities in Methuen and Haverhill. We have asked New Hampshire’s insurance carriers to work quickly with consumers if adjustments to prior authorizations or changes to care are needed based on this unfolding situation.

At this point, we have determined that approximately 500 individuals with commercial insurance coverage have sought care at those facilities over the past nine months, which provides us with a picture of the universe of individuals who might be impacted.”
