InDepthNH.org’s Nancy West wants you – our readers and supporters – to better get to know us. She will explore what’s happening in New Hampshire relative to reporting and funding local news.

West has invited Alice Dreger to give us the big picture nationally. And InDepthNH.org’s Bev Stoddart will moderate this event, making sure we have enough time to get your questions answered.
Dreger has been working in local news for over ten years, having founded the nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization East Lansing Info, where she served as the lead investigative reporter in addition to leading the team as the publisher. She is now working on a book about that experience, illuminating the reality of bringing serious local news in America today. The book functions as a sort of sequel to her 2015 book, Galileo’s Middle Finger: Heretics, Activists, and One Scholar’s Search for Justice, which was named an Editors’ Choice by the New York Times. Dreger’s national bylines include the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, WIRED, The Atlantic, and more. In this talk for InDepthNH’s audience, she’ll review the threats and opportunities facing organizations like InDepthNH, which brings independent investigative reporting in the public interest to the people of New Hampshire. The event’s schedule will leave lots of time for Q&A.
Nancy West founded the nonprofit New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism in April of 2015. West is the publisher and executive editor of the center’s investigative news website InDepthNH.org. West has won many awards for investigative reporting during her 30 years at the New Hampshire Union Leader. She has taught investigative journalism at the New England Center for Investigative Reporting’s summer program for pre-college students at Boston University. West is passionate about government transparency. West was the recipient of the Michael Donoghue Freedom of Information Award given by the New England First Amendment Coalition (NEFAC) on June 1, 2023 in Boston.

Beverly Stoddart is a writer, author, and speaker. After 42 years of working at newspapers, she retired to write books. She is on the Board of Trustees of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project. She is the author of Stories from the Rolodex, mini-memoirs of journalists from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
