Untimely Death Reported at State Prison in Berlin

BERLIN – The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces the investigation of a resident’s untimely death at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin.

At approximately 4:00 AM, corrections staff noticed a resident in the health services unit that appeared to be in distress. The resident was pronounced dead soon after.

 The death is not considered suspicious; however, all aspects of his death remain under investigation and the Department requested the assistance of the New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of State Police. Pursuant to standard protocol, the New Hampshire Department of Justice Office of the Attorney General has been notified.

 No additional information is expected to be released until the resident’s next of kin are notified, and an autopsy is completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
