Lancaster Man Dies in Sanbornton Crash

The driver of a truck accused of impaired driving was due in court today.


SANBORNTON, New Hampshire – On Sunday, July 23, 2023, at approximately 1:33 p.m., Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop D barracks were notified of a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 93 South located in the town of Sanbornton, in the area of mile marker 62.4.

Upon arrival it was determined that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Interstate 93 when the vehicle left the left side of the roadway and into the soft shoulder. The vehicle then reentered the highway and rolled over.  As a result of the crash, the passenger was ejected and sustained fatal injuries.  The operator of the Chevrolet was transported to Franklin Hospital to be evaluated.

The deceased passenger has been identified as John R. Hanna Jr., age 52, of Lancaster, NH.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, the operator of the Chevrolet, identified as Casey W. Kirsch, age 33 of Weymouth, MA was arrested and charged with Negligent Homicide and Aggravated DWI. Kirsch is scheduled to appear at the Belknap Superior Court on July 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

At the request of the Troop D, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit responded to the scene and assumed the lead of the investigation. The C.A.R. Unit was assisted on scene by New Hampshire State Police Troop D, Troop E, New Hampton and Sanbornton Police Departments, along with the Sanbornton and Tilton Northfield Fire Departments and New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

At this time all aspects of the collision are still under investigation.
