Attorney General John M. Formella announces that Brandon R. Mitchell, age 21, has been indicted on multiple charges in connection with the shooting death of Esmae Doucette, age 23, in Jackson, on November 30, 2022.
On February 17, 2023, the Carroll County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Mr. Mitchell with one count of second-degree murder for knowingly causing Ms. Doucette’s death by shooting her. The Grand Jury also indicted Mr. Mitchell on an alternative count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing the death of Ms. Doucette under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life, by shooting her. Finally, Mr. Mitchell was indicted for falsifying physical evidence, in that Mr. Mitchell, believing that an investigation was pending or about to be instituted, altered or concealed any thing, to wit, moving or placing a bullet cartridge in the bedroom, with a purpose to impair its verity or availability in such investigation.
Mr. Mitchell is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on at 9:00 a.m., on March 16, 2023, in the Carroll County Superior Court.
The charges and allegations against Mr. Mitchell are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
