CONCORD
– Gov. Chris Sununu along with former governors unveiled several valuable documents connected with our nation’s birth at the State House on Monday.

The 1789 Bill of Rights and an engraved copy of the 1823 Declaration of Independence will be on display now through Saturday at 2 p.m. in the visitors’ center at the State House as part of the building’s bicentennial celebration.

Former Gov. John H. Sununu, former Gov. Stephen Merrill, U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, former Gov. Craig Benson, U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, and Gov. Chris Sununu were on hand Monday to celebrate the State House Bicentennial.

There is no charge to visit the State House, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The documents are extremely rare and are being protected by the State Police during their exhibition. They are in fantastic condition, said Virginia Drew, director of the visitors’ center.
