Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner announce additional information concerning the officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 1, 2019, in Weare, New Hampshire in which a Weare police officer was shot in the arm.

Earlier today, New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duval conducted an autopsy on Jeffrey Clough-Gavin (age 43).  Dr. Duval determined that the cause of Mr. Clough-Gavin’s death was a shotgun wound to the chest, and that his manner of death is suicide. 

Dr. Duval also determined that Mr. Clough-Gavin sustained additional gunshot wounds in addition to the self-inflicted shotgun wound/

When asked who fired the additional shots and where Clough-Gavin was hit, spokesman Kate Spiner said: “We cannot provide that information as the investigation is ongoing into the incident. We will provide those details in the final report.” 

The investigation into Mr. Clough-Gavin’s encounter with the police preceding his encounter with police is ongoing.

Police responded to 236 Buckley Road around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, according to the attorney general’s office. Shots were fired at around 1:48 p.m., police said. Clough-Garvin shot Weare police Officer William Lewis, 27, in the arm. The injury to Lewis was not life-threatening and he was scheduled to go into surgery Thursday.
