Roger Wood has joined InDepthNH.org’s investigative team to produce a regular podcast called “Roger Wood Indepth” that will be about life in New Hampshire.
In his premier podcast, Wood interviews Bill Boynton of the state Department of Transportation about what to with aging transponders to avoid losing your 30 percent discount.
Wood is a well-known, award-winning radio, television and newspaper journalist with more than 30 years of experience. He has written and produced news and features for many radio stations and networks over the years.
“I’ll be interviewing newsmakers, following up on current issues, and presenting features of New Hampshire people working to better the communities where they live,” Wood said.
The news of his latest venture is spreading fast.
Jim Splaine, Portsmouth’s assistant mayor, is Wood’s longtime fan and friend.
“I first met Roger when he began covering Portsmouth City Council meetings for WHEB Radio in the very early 1970s,” Splaine said. “His ability to write, to process complex issues, and to communicate with that golden voice of his has made him a treasure in the radio news culture.”
It was Wood’s dedication to quality work and his loyalty to reporting the truth that truly reveals his personal character and uncompromising honesty, Splaine said.
InDepthNH.org will publish Wood’s latest podcast every week.
Wood has worked with NPR, NHPR, WBUR, Maine Public Radio, Minnesota Public Radio, the Clear Channel Radio stations and New Hampshire Public Television. He has also written for the Portsmouth Herald, York County Coast Star and the York (ME) Times.
Wood will continue as a regular contributor to NHPR and other public radio stations.
During a five-year tenure at Townsquare Media stations WOKQ/WPKQ/WSHK/WSAK, he won reporting awards for his blizzard coverage, as well as for the tragic killings and funerals of two New Hampshire police officers.
“Roger is a terrific seasoned reporter who has a way of going straight to the heart of a story,” said Nancy West, founder of the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, which publishes the online investigative news outlet InDepthNH.org.
“He is comfortable working in any medium – print, radio or television. What matters most to Roger is that the truth of the story be told.”
He and his wife, Elaine, live in Portsmouth. Wood has produced voice narrations for the Seacoast Science Center, Paragon Travel, many radio stations and political candidates. His most recent projects include production of audiobooks for Amazon, Audible and iTunes.
He is currently producing several narrations, including full novels, novellas, biographies and self-help audiobooks.
