UPDATE: In an email, the Rochester School Department said Rochester Middle School was closed Friday because of a bomb threat.

“School officials received an email Friday morning stating a generic threat that the school would be bombed,” the email said.

“Putting students’ and staff members’ safety first the Rochester School District closed the middle school for the day.”

“At this time, there is no evidence that the threat is credible…,” it said.

Rochester Middle School was closed Friday due to what principal Ryan Gilpatrick called a “life safety situation” in a message to parents, according to Seacoastonline.

There was no answer at the school Friday morning and Rochester police didn’t immediately have any details at 8:45 a.m.

The closure comes after Portsmouth High School was closed Thursday due to a threat that someone was going to shoot up the school.

Portsmouth police charged Kyle Hendrickson with criminal threatening with a firearm, a Class B Felony in that case and arrested him in Portland, Maine Thursday.
