CONCORD – It was a big news day for Dr. Tom Sherman for Governor outraising Gov. Chris Sununu for the second quarter in a row, and winning the endorsement of AFT-NH.
AFT-NH represents a diverse cross-section of New Hampshire workers including teachers, law enforcement, janitors, and others.
“I’m honored to have the support of AFT-NH. Growing up, my public school teachers helped shape me into the person I am today,” Sherman said. “As Governor, I will stand up for our public schools – the foundation of our communities – and ensure that all of our children have access to a world-class education. Governor Sununu has sought to undermine public education at every turn. From his disastrous voucher program, which sends tax dollars to private and religious schools without oversight, to opposing increasing public school funding in the state budget, it’s clear we cannot trust Governor Sununu to support our schools.”
The new campaign finance reports released Wednesday night show that Sherman has outraised incumbent Governor Chris Sununu for the second quarter in a row, and has more cash on hand than Sununu.
Sununu’s spokesman didn’t immediately return a request for comment Wednesday evening.
Sherman has raised $1.18 million so far for his campaign, more at this point than any Democratic gubernatorial candidate since Maggie Hassan was re-elected in 2014. With $728,00 on hand, Sherman also has double the cash on hand that the last two Democratic gubernatorial nominees had at this point in their campaign. Sununu is trailing behind for the first time as governor with $723,000.
This comes after public polling showed Sherman gaining ground, and internal polling showing this race becomes a statistical tie when voters are informed about the abortion ban Chris Sununu signed.
