On Friday March 8th, at approximately 3 p.m., the Cannon Mountain Ski patrol responded to the report of a collision involving two skiers that occurred on the Middle Ravine Trail at Cannon Mountain Ski Area.
Ski patrol arrived on scene and made contact with both skiers.
Jeremy Keiran (39), of Somerville, MA was found to be unresponsive by first responders, who immediately initiated life saving treatment. Unfortunately those efforts were unsuccessful and Keiran succumbed to the injuries on the mountain.
Robert Slocum (48), of Newburyport, MA also sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries as a result of the accident. He was transported to the Littleton Regional Hospital for further medical treatment.
The New Hampshire State Police Troop – F was requested to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The preliminary Investigation revealed that Keiran was skiing down the Profile Trail on Cannon Mountain, when he lost control and was thrown from his skis. Keiran continued to slide through a roped off area at the end of that trail and then off an embankment. Keiran then subsequently struck Slocum, who was skiing on the Middle Ravine Trail.
State Police was assisted at the scene by Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol, Franconia Police Department, and Franconia Life Squad.
State Police urge skiers to ski within their abilities, maintain a reasonable speed and be prepared for changing conditions and potential hazards.
