Ahead of the start of the filing period tomorrow, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley, State Senator Cindy Rosenwald, D-Nashua, and former House Speaker Terie Norelli held a press conference Tuesday to slam the Republican Senate candidates as “yes men” for Mitch McConnell’s push to ban abortion nationwide.
Chuck Morse, Kevin Smith, and Don Bolduc all have long anti-choice records and have made clear that they support overturning Roe v. Wade:
- Morse was the deciding vote against codifying Roe in the New Hampshire State Senate earlier this month and was the key architect of New Hamsphire’s abortion ban. Morse has repeatedly voted against adding exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal diagnosis to New Hampshire’s abortion ban, and voted twice to keep the ban’s mandatory ultrasound requirement.
- Smith has a decades-long record of supporting abortion bans without exceptions and told supporters after the Supreme Court draft decision leaked that “we are SO close to ending abortion once and for all.”
- Bolduc has said that he supports outlawing abortion and stated that New Hampshire’s abortion ban does not go far enough.

NHDP Chair Ray Buckley: “Mitch McConnell has made it clear that his number one priority is ending Roe and restricting abortion and reproductive rights. And that’s exactly what he would do if he gets a Republican Senate majority. But first, he’ll need a Republican Senator from New Hampshire, and right now, he has a group of candidates who would help him ban abortion nationwide. That’s why we will do everything we can to re-elect Senator Maggie Hassan and Democrats up and down the ticket who will stand and fight for Granite Staters’ reproductive rights.”
State Senator Cindy Rosenwald (Nashua): “No matter what the Supreme Court decides on Roe v. Wade this summer, voters in New Hampshire have had enough. We will not allow Mitch McConnell to have the opportunity to pass a nationwide abortion ban by retaking the Republican majority, and we will do everything we can to re-elect Senator Maggie Hassan and Democrats up and down the ticket in New Hampshire who will fight for our reproductive rights.”
Former House Speaker Terie Norelli: “Whether it’s Chuck Morse, Don Bolduc, or Kevin Smith it’s clear that these Republican Senate candidates are running to help McConnell ban abortion and roll back reproductive rights. But we will not go back. Granite Staters are tired of Republicans’ attacks on our rights, and that’s why we will fight to ensure that none of these candidates win in November. ”
