Rep. Altschiller announces her run in Senate District 24
CONCORD, N.H. — On Monday, Rep. Debra Altschiller, D-Stratham, announced her candidacy for New Hampshire Senate District 24, the seat currently held by Dr. Tom Sherman, who announced his candidacy for governor on March 14.
Rep. Altschiller has held the seat for Rockingham’s 19th House District since 2016, winning three consecutive elections. She holds a Bachelor’s from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, is a Leadership Seacoast alum, a volunteer with End 68 Hours of Hunger and the Seacoast Chapter of Moms Demand Action. She spent over a decade in service with the Stratham Fair, Exeter Area General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Stratham Memorial School.
Rep. Altschiller has served on the House Judiciary Committee, Transportation Committee and currently sits on the Children and Family Law Committee. Her legislative efforts have been in child protection, reproductive freedom, crime victims’ rights, support for families and fair wage issues.
She is the Community Liaison for New Hampshire’s largest domestic and sexual violence crisis response center working for a decade in prevention and support services. She serves on the New Hampshire Human Trafficking Colaborative Task Force and the Oversight Commission for Children’s Services.
Rep. Altschiller released the following statement alongside this announcement:
“For the past 18 years I have called District 24 my home and for the past 6, I have been honored to serve Stratham in the House of Representatives. Over the past 6 years, I have fought the hard battles for reproductive health care, gun violence prevention, protections for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and critical measures to keep our kids safe because I believe in New Hampshire. I believe in our core values of community, family, and civic engagement. I believe that every single Granite Stater deserves equitable access to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and will always stand up to protect those inalienable rights. It is that core belief that motivates me and why I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Senate.
“My extensive history of public service both in and out of the State House gives me the experience and drive to represent the people of the Seacoast the way they expect and deserve to be represented. I am running for Senate District 24 because I believe in not only what we are as a state, but what I know we can be.
“That is why I am running for Senate District 24.”
