We are in the throes of another presidential election and before you make your decision of who to vote for, you must read this fascinating book, Gate City.
It is about the elections when Kennedy, Nixon, and Rockefeller were politically front and center. They were vying for the presidency, but the political spin doctors along with giant corporations and rich family members, were also vying to lead through the back door.
These are the operatives to watch. This is exactly what we are experiencing today with Trump, Pence and Clinton, Kaine.
Advertising execs and political spin doctors rule the day in Gate City and then in the backdrop there is Dr. Fishbein. Who is he? How does he work mathematics and theory into a political scenario?
Michael Davidow introduces us to two main characters who are flawed but real and their families who are also flawed but real. There is emotional anxiety and nightmares of World War II battles, children and, Bobby, who seems always to be crying or screaming. The world spins seemingly out of control, then there is a murder and racial unrest, too.
The world is thrown at the reader. We get to see the possibilities of how the politics of the day play out. We do not have to pick between Republican or Democrat or choose between the best-case scenarios developed by giant corporations.
We do have to choose between what we think is best for the majority of the people and ourselves. A little bit about religion finds its way into the background. We do not have to choose either/or, but we must choose our own path and how we want to live in the context of our own integrity.
The author has a solid grip on the characters, times, political events and the economic future. Michael Davidow keeps us interested in these characters from the first page of Gate City.
Please read this very interesting, complex, thought-provoking and very well-written novel. You will be glad you did. Check it out on Amazon.
