The city of Portsmouth is moving forward with mitigation of the contaminants in three wells located at Pease International Tradeport, which are all polluted at some level with perflurochemical compounds, PFC’s.
The contamination of the Smith, Harrison and Haven wells was discovered two years ago. Only one, the Haven well, was shut down because of the contamination. Now, the city has reached an agreement with the Air Force, which will provide funding to start treating the wells, which serve the Tradeport.
Roger Wood spoke with Brian Goetz, the city’s deputy director of Public Works about the situation. According to City Manager John Bohenko, “The City has pushed for treatment of all Wells since the contamination was first discovered, and is committed to providing a safe and adequate supply of drinking water to the Pease tenants. I want to thank the Air Force for their cooperation, our Congressional Delegation, and especially Senators Shaheen and Ayotte for their continued assistance in finding a resolution. It is great news for us to be able to move forward with this project.”
