Part 1 — U.S. Senate Candidate Troy Jackson (D-ME) Campaigns in Belfast, ME
U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson, a Democrat from Maine, delivered remarks at a community event in Belfast, Maine. He talked about when he and other Maine loggers held a blockade to protest Canadian loggers poaching jobs from them for less pay, and how the experience taught him to fight for workers’ rights. Jackson called for Congress to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement and appropriate the funds towards issues such as health care and housing. “It can’t be reformed,” he said. “In my estimation, it has to be taken away.” He called his opponent, longtime U.S. Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine a “rubber stamp” for Republicans, and that she does not fight hard enough for the people of Maine. Jackson faces Sen. Collins in the general election in a race the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates as a ‘toss up.’
