PLYMOUTH – Charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his 21-year-old sister, 18-year-old Logan Anderson waived arraignment in Plymouth District Court Tuesday afternoon.

Anderson faces the potential of life in prison on a charge that he shot Leah Anderson to death Monday morning on Mad River Road in Thornton. Police were summoned to the family home about 8:20 a.m. and the woman was transported to a hospital where she was declared dead.

An autopsy was being conducted Tuesday by the state medical examiner’s office but no results have been released publicly.
Several members of the family attended the hearing set for 1 p.m. in Plymouth but it was waived at the last minute by Logan Anderson.

Bethany J. Durand, assistant attorney general, said outside the court house that Logan Anderson was charged late Monday with knowingly committing the murder of his sister and is charged with murder in the second-degree.

She declined to go into motives or details of the case leading up to the shooting but said the case is still being developed. By waiving Tuesday, Logan Anderson agreed to be held without bail.

“He will have a hearing scheduled, within, I think, in the next 10 days in order to determine whether there is probable cause on the murder charge,” Durand said.

A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf and a probable cause hearing in the case has been scheduled for Plymouth Circuit Court on June 17 at 1:00 p.m.

Sworn statements in the case are currently sealed because it is still an investigation, Durand said.

“Today is only about announcing the charge that he is facing,” and that charge, she said, carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

After a probable cause hearing, which he can also waive, the case would be bound over to the Superior Court and that court would be in charge of bail, if any.

The charges and allegations against Logan Anderson are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The two Anderson children were members of the Plymouth area community and the victim was a graduate of Plymouth Regional High School where she was active in sports and activities and then began attending Plymouth State University where she was studying Elementary Education and Youth Development.
